Richard J. Aitken, B.A., L.L.B. (Osgoode Hall)
Mr. Aitken completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree in
History at Trent University in 1979. He then attended Osgoode Hall's
Faculty of Law at York University and graduated in 1982. Following
graduation, Mr. Aitken articled at the law firm of Blenkarn, Roche
in Mississauga.
For the past 17 years, he has practised locally.
For the most part this has been criminal law, with the primary focus
on impaired driving and sexual assault defences.
Mr. Aitken has also been a part-time Assistant Crown
Attorney for 15 years.
In 1999, Mr. Aitken acquired the practices of
Harry Robertson, and John Robertson, Q.C. The Robertsons had provided
legal services to the community since the early 1960s.
Edwin Boeve, B.Sc., M.S.W., LL.B. (University of
Toronto)
Prior to entering law school Mr. Boeve received
his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Toronto. He
graduated with "high distinction" and received the Robert
S. Lockhart graduation award in psychology.
Mr. Boeve graduated from the University of Toronto's
faculty of law in 1997. At the University of Toronto he completed
both his Law Degree, and Master's Degree in Social Work. While at
law school Mr. Boeve gained experience at the Clarke Institute of
Psychiatry dealing in the areas of fitness to stand trial, dangerous
offender applications, the not criminally responsible defence (formerly
called "insanity"), and automatism.
Upon graduating from law school Mr. Boeve articled
with the Ministry of Attorney General, Crown Law Division in Toronto,
where he assisted in preparing appeals to both the Ontario Court
of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.
Called to the Bar of Ontario in 1999, Mr. Boeve has
been practising with the law firm of Aitken Robertson for three
years. Working exclusively within the area of criminal law Mr. Boeve
has conducted trials and argued and prepared many technical Charter
of Rights and Freedoms motions. These include issues such as trial
within a reasonable period of time, rights to counsel, abuse of
process, search and seizure, and full answer and defence. He has
argued appeals in such diverse areas ranging from driving while
suspended, impaired driving, and dangerous driving to sexual assault
and narcotic matters.
For 17 years the firm of Aitken Robertson has been
providing legal services to southern Ontario.
